On July 3rd I will be taking part in the Gold Coast Half Marathon (running 21.095km!) As an ambassador for The Pyjama Foundation, I am fundraising to support children living in foster care.
The Pyjama Foundation empowers kids in care with learning, life skills, and confidence to improve their life outcomes.
Since facing adversity throughout my childhood, and battling depression and anxiety as a teen, I wholeheartedly understand the struggles that can follow a difficult start in life – and how it can take time to build self-love and self-belief.
There are more than 48,000 children living in out of home care – this number has doubled in 10 years. This is the lowest educational pool of children in Australia.
- 75% of kids in care will not finish school
- 35% of these kids will enter the juvenile justice system
- 50% of the homeless come from a care background
Without support and early intervention, many children in out of home care will continue experience this cycle of disadvantage.
Education and connection is crucial - The Pyjama Foundation's mission is to ensure as many kids as possible receive that one-on-one learning support that they don't often receive in a school-based setting.
By pledging a donation in support of this run, you will be helping The Pyjama Foundation continue their life-changing work with children in out of home care.
